Sutter County, California (July 6, 2021) – A three-vehicle crash has claimed the lives of two people and left two others injured Tuesday afternoon in Sutter County, the California Highway Patrol said.

The deadly multi-vehicle collision happened just after 2:30 p.m. on Highway 20 and North Humphrey Road,

According to the CHP, a Nissan Titan and a GMC 3500 were traveling eastbound on Highway 20 when, for undetermined reasons, the Nissan veered into opposite lane directly into the path of a westbound gravel truck hauling two trailers.

The CHP also mentioned that video footage from the gravel truck showed the GMC rear-ending the Nissan, which then veered into the westbound lane.

In the video, the front of the gravel truck struck the passenger side of the Nissan. The impact caused the Nissan to spin out of control and its cabin detach from the cargo bed and then burst into flames.

The GMC traveling behind the Nissan applied the brakes and swerved to the right in an attempt to avoid the collision but was not successful. The GMC ultimately crashed into the Nissan’s cargo bed.
