Modesto, California (February 11, 2021) – One person was killed Thursday morning following a broadside accident in Modesto, according to a local news source.

The deadly crash, which involved two vehicles, happened at around 10:45 a.m. on Finch Road, just east of Mitchell Road, the California Highway Patrol reported.

According to the CHP, a Jeep and a Chevrolet Malibu were heading westbound on Finch Road when, for unknown reasons, the Chevrolet made a U-turn and was broadsided by the Jeep.

The CHP said the Jeep was traveling at approximately 35 miles per hour prior to the collision.

The Chevrolet driver, only identified as a male victim, was pronounced dead at the scene. His name was withheld pending notification of next of kin. He was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident, authorities said.

The driver of the Jeep was uninjured.

Investigators said neither drugs nor alcohol were a factor in the crash.

The accident remains under investigation.
