22-Year-Old La Habra Woman Killed, 2 Injured in Highway 18 Crash in Big Bear Lake
Big Bear Lake, California (March 13, 2019) – A 22-year-old La Habra woman was killed and two others were injured Wednesday morning in a traffic accident involving two vehicles near Big Bear Lake, according to a local news source.
The deadly accident occurred at about 9:45 a.m. on Highway 18, between Big Bear Lake and Running Springs, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The CHP said a white 2004 Honda Civic driven by a 31-year-old Elk Grove man, was heading northbound on Highway 18 at an unknown speed when its driver lost control, veered into the other side of the highway and into the path of a silver 2011 Chevrolet Tahoe that was traveling southbound at approximately 40 miles per hour.
The Chevrolet then struck the right side of the Honda.
Fatal Two-Car Accident near Big Bear Lake.
The La Habra woman, who was in the front passenger-side seat of the Honda, was declared dead at the scene. Her name has not been released pending identification and notification of her relatives.
The Elk Grove man sustained major injuries and was taken to the Bear Valley Community Hospital. The driver of the Chevrolet, An 80-year-old Big Bear Lake man, suffered minor injuries and did not need transportation to the hospital.
Neither alcohol nor drugs were a suspected factor in the accident. An investigation into the crash is underway.
