57-Year-Old Soquel Man Dies after Rio Del Mar Bicycle Crash on Sumner Avenue near Dolphin Drive
Rio Del Mar, California (January 25, 2021) – A 57-year-old Soquel man was killed in a Saturday evening bicycle accident in Rio Del Mar, authorities said.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the deadly accident happened just before 6:00 p.m., on January 23, on Sumner Avenue just north of Dolphin Drive.
The male cyclist was traveling on the roadway on a motorized bicycle when he struck the center median for undetermined reasons, the CHP said.
As a result of the collision, the 57-year-old Soquel man was ejected from his bicycle onto the roadway.

First responders arrived at the scene and found the man alive but having trouble breathing. Unfortunately, the man died shortly after.
The male cyclist was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, the officials said.
An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
