Robert Payne ID’d as Person Killed in Twentynine Palms Crash on Amboy Road near Sandy Lane

Twentynine Palms, California (July 13, 2019) – The person who was killed Wednesday night in a traffic accident in Twentynine Palms has been identified as Robert Payne, 70, of Twentynine Palms, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner.
The fatal accident happened at about 7:22 p.m. Wednesday, July 10 on Amboy Road near Sandy Lane.
According to the authorities, Payne was driving a Subaru Outback eastbound on Amboy Road when for undetermined reasons, he allowed his vehicle to drift into the westbound lane and collided head-on with a Toyota operated by Cameron J. Turner, 19.
Payne was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
Turner and his passenger, Jason S. Bussell, 22, were flown to Desert Regional Medical Center with unspecified injuries. Their conditions at this time remained unknown.
No further details regarding the accident were immediately provided.
The Morongo office of the California Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the accident.
