Chula Vista, California (June 7, 2021) – The woman who was killed in a collision with a wrong-way driver at a Chula Vista intersection on Saturday evening has been identified as Marth Bertha Villalobos Romo, 57, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner.

The California Highway Patrol said the collision took pace at about 6 p.m. on Third Avenue at L Street.

A Ford Mustang was involved in a street race with another vehicle when the Mustang’s driver ran a red light at the intersection and crashed into a Nissan Altima driven by Romo.

The Mustang was heading east in the westbound lanes when it collided head-on with the oncoming Nissan.

Two other vehicles that were traveling behind the Altima also got involved in the collision.

Romo was killed in the accident. She had her grandchildren in the backseat of her vehicle. The children were taken to an area hospital with minor injuries.

The other motorists, including the Mustang driver, were taken to hospital with minor to moderate injuries.

The Mustang driver was also arrested following the incident.

CHP said the driver of the second car that was racing the Mustang fled the scene. The suspect was driving a 2014 or newer white Subaru WRX.

An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
