Huntington Beach, California (July 27, 2021) – Deanna Stuve, 48, of Hemet, has been identified as the female pedestrian who was hit and killed by a vehicle on Sunday evening in Huntington Beach, authorities said.

The deadly pedestrian crash transpired at about 8:00 p.m., on July 25, on northbound Pacific Coast Highway near Newland Avenue.

According to the police, a Nissan Altima driven by Chillandra Bell, 26, of Victorville, was traveling northbound on Pacific Coast Highway when it ran a red light, striking Deanna and her husband, Frederick Stuve, 50. They were crossing in the crosswalk with the right of way.

Sadly, Deanna was pronounced dead at the scene. Frederick was hospitalized in critical condition.

Bell tried to flee the scene but was arrested and taken into custody on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and hit-and-run, resulting in death.

It was not clear if drugs or alcohol played a role in the accident.

The crash remains under investigation.
