Castroville, California (November 13, 2019) – One person was killed in a traffic collision involving an Amtrak train and a sanitation truck in the area of Castroville Wednesday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The fatal collision was reported at approximately 6:56 p.m. Wednesday, at the intersection of Rodgers Road and Highway 183.

The CHP said a sanitation truck and an Amtrak train collided at the intersection for unknown reasons.

Due to the impact, sewage spilled in the area after the collision.

The truck motorist was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene. 

Two passengers onboard the Amtrak train suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene.

Meanwhile, the CHP is investigating the cause of the fatal accident.
