6 Injured, 2 Critically in Beaumont DUI Crash on Sixth Street at Beaumont Avenue Saturday afternoon

Beaumont, California (May 11, 2019) – Six people were hospitalized Saturday afternoon after an alleged DUI crash on a main Beaumont roadway, police said.
The accident occurred at about 2:45 p.m. on Sixth Street at Beaumont Avenue and involved two vehicles.
Witnesses told authorities that a 4 door, white Lincoln was speeding Westbound on Sixth Street. Upon reaching Beaumont Avenue, the driver failed to stop at a stop sign and colliding head-on with a passenger van.
DUI Car Crash in Beaumont Saturday
The force of the impact caused the Lincoln to burst into flames while the van to flip onto its side and trapped some of the occupants. Two of the victims were children.
A total of six people were taken to a hospital. Their names and conditions at this time were not disclosed.
According to witnesses, the Lincoln driver reportedly tried to flee the scene, but bystanders detained him until police arrived. Police said the driver, who was believed to be under the influence, was also transported to an area hospital with unspecified injuries.
Authorities closed a portion of Sixth Street and Beaumont Avenue as they investigated the crash. The road was expected to remain closed until after 5:00 p.m.
