Jose Jesus Pena Hurt in Fatal Delano Car Crash on Highway 43 and Schuster Road
Delano, California (July 19, 2019) – A 66-year-old truck driver was injured in a fatal crash that left a car driver dead on Wednesday night near Delano, according to the CHP.
The incident took place at about 9:29 p.m. July 17, on Highway 43 and Schuster Road.
CHP said a 41-year-old Delano man was driving north on Highway 43 when he drifted into the path of oncoming traffic and collided head-on with an oncoming tractor-trailer hauling tomatoes.
The car caught fire following the wreck.
The driver of the car, who has not been identified, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The big rig driver, Jose Jesus Pena, 66, of Armona, was taken to Kern Medical Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
The crash caused a closure of Highway 43 at Schuster Road in both directions as officials worked to clear the scene.
The CHP is conducting an investigation into the crash.
