National City, California (July 4, 2019) – One of the nine people who were hospitalized Monday night after a fiery traffic accident in National City has been identified as Alonso Godina, according to a local news source.

The wreck occurred at about 6:45 p.m. July 1, on Interstate 5 northbound near Civic Center Drive.

According to California Highway Patrol, an SUV crashed into a Ford F-150 that was stalled in the roadway. The SUV then burst into flames after the impact.

Two more vehicles then became involved in the crash.

Alonso Godina Hurt in Car Crash in National City

Godina, who was riding in one of the vehicles, was transported to UC San Diego Medical Center with burns. He was expected to spend nearly four weeks at the burn unit. A 3-year-old who was with Godina suffered major burns and underwent surgery on Wednesday and was in stable condition.

Seven other parties were taken to the hospital with major injuries.

No further details were immediately available.

The crash remains under investigation.
