37-Year-Old Man Sustains Major Injuries in San Marcos Motorcycle Accident on Smilax Road near Santa Fe Avenue Monday morning
San Marcos, California (July 2, 2019) – A wrong-way motorcyclist was seriously injured Monday morning in San Marcos, according to authorities.
The major-Injury crash took place at about 8:30 a.m. Monday, July 1 on Smilax Road, just south of Santa Fe Avenue near the state Route 78 overpass.
Authorities said a 37-year-old man was riding a Kawasaki motorcycle southbound in a northbound lane on Smilax Road when his bike clipped a GMC van driven by a 58-year-old man.
The force of the impact sent the rider tumbling onto the street.
Major Injury Motorcycle Crash in San Marcos Monday
Paramedics responded to the scene and transported the rider to Palomar Medical Center in Escondido with serious but non-life threatening injuries.
The driver of the van was not injured in the wreck.
It was immediately unclear why the motorcyclist was riding the wrong way.
Alcohol or drugs were not suspected factors in the crash. The accident remains under investigation.
