Morongo Valley, California (July 1, 2019) – A 32-year-old Twentynine Palms man was killed Sunday night in a traffic accident in Morongo Valley, according to California Highway Patrol.

The deadly accident happened at about 9:44 p.m. Sunday, June 30 on Twentynine Palms Highway on the Yucca Grade just east of Samel Road.

CHP said a blue, 1999 Chevrolet Silverado driven by the 32-year-old Twentynine Palms man, was traveling eastbound on the highway while a grey, 2019 Volkswagen Jetta operated by Gina Hannah, 28, of Yucca Valley, was heading westbound on the highway, approaching the Chevy from the opposite direction.

According to witnesses, the Chevy speeding eastbound in the westbound traffic lanes before the collision. The accident happened when Chevy struck the guardrail attenuator separating the two sides of the highway.

The force of the impact caused the Chevy to overturn and sustained major damage. The driver of the Chevy was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene. His name has not been released pending notification of family.

The collision propelled debris into the westbound traffic lanes where it hit the windshield of the Jetta. The Jetta sustained minor in the crash.

Hannah was not injured in the wreck.

It is undetermined if alcohol or drugs were suspected factors in the accident.
