Newport Beach, California (June 6, 2019) – 64-year-old Arda Melikyan has been identified as the woman killed in a malicious head-on collision in Newport Beach Wednesday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol report.
The fatal crash occurred at around 9:00 a.m. June 5 on northbound Highway 73.
As per the report, the accident happened when Luke Fitch, 23, allegedly entered the freeway’s northbound lanes and drove southbound going against traffic hence colliding head-on with the victim’s white BMW sedan, according to a local news source. The initial report indicated that Fitch was driving his silver Mercedes station wagon at high speed at the time of the collision. A third driver in a white Lexus subsequently struck the Mercedes driven by the 64-year-old Arda Melikyan.
Melikyan sustained fatal injuries and was miserably pronounced dead at the scene. Fitch suffered moderate injuries following the wreck. He was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment and evaluation. On release from the hospital, Fitct might be charged with vehicular homicide.
Meanwhile, the police are identifying whether drugs or alcohol were factors as well as whether this was possibly an intentional act.
