39-Year-Old George Guardino Hurt in North Coast Car Crash on Highway 101

North Coast, California (May 25, 2019) –39-year-old George Guardino of Upper Lake has been identified as one of the victims injured in a Car crash in Ukiah Thursday evening, according to the California Highway Patrol report.
The two-vehicle crash, which was reported at about 4:00 p.m. May 23, occurred on Highway 101 near Hopland.
The accident happened when Zachary McKnight driving a 2016 Dodge Charger patrol car with Officer Haddad riding as his passenger on northbound Highway 101 collided with a 2000 GMC 2500 pickup driven by Guardino, also on the northbound lane. Initial reports indicated that McKnight activated the patrol car’s rear emergency lights and slowed down to make a U-turn while still within the northbound lane after he observed a vehicle traveling southbound on Highway 101 at high speed. Guardino saw the CHP car’s emergency lights and tried to stop, but due to the speed and distance, he was traveling behind the patrol car he was unable to slow down and avoids the collision safely.
The CHP report indicated that Guardino sustained minor injuries while the two officers suffered moderate hurts following the crash.
All the three parties involved were wearing their seat belts before the occurrence of the collision.
The CHP affirmed that drugs or alcohol were not factors at the time of the collision.
The investigation is still underway.
