Idyllwild, California (May 16, 2019) – A driver was hospitalized Friday afternoon after a traffic accident in Idyllwild, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred at around 12:30 p.m. Friday, May 10 on Highway 243 and Saunders Meadow Road and involved three vehicles.

According to the CHP, a white sedan was heading southbound on Highway 243 when its driver became disoriented due to thick fog limiting visibility. The driver then tried to turn left onto lower Saunders Meadow Road but didn’t see a northbound dark blue Jeep Wrangler. Both vehicles collided head-on.

A silver BMW also heading southbound struck the back of the white sedan.

The driver of the white sedan sustained moderate injuries and was taken to Desert Regional Medical Center.

No one else was injured in the wreck.

Authorities shut down the highway in both directions for less than an hour as the crews worked to clear the scene.
