Man Dies after Crash on Highway 33 in Coalinga

Coalinga, California (May 4, 2019) – A driver was killed after a traffic collision Friday morning in the area of Coalinga, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash happened at around 5:20 a.m. Friday, May 3, on Highway 33, north of Highway 41.

As per the CHP officials, 43-year-old Charles Penner of Paso Robles was driving north on Highway 33 when he crossed into the southbound lanes for reasons still under investigation.

Penner then drove into the path of oncoming traffic and crashed head-on with another vehicle. A third car was also involved in the crash following the first crash.

The 26-year-old Avenal man driving the vehicle that was struck head-on suffered severe injuries as a result of the collision. The patient was then airlifted to the hospital where he later died.

His name has not been yet released awaiting notification of next of kin.

Penner was transported to Adventist Medical Center in Coalinga for treatment of moderate injuries.

The third vehicle driver, 38-year-old Anna Oliveros of Avenal was unhurt in the crash.

No additional information concerning this incident was provided.

An investigation is ongoing.
