2 Kern Residents Killed and 3 Cal Poly Students Injured in Highway 166 Crash near Rock Front Ranch
New Cuyama, California (April 8, 2019) – A man and woman from Kern County were killed and three Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo students were injured Saturday in a traffic accident near New Cuyama, according to a local news source.
The tragic accident happened on Highway 166, just west of New Cuyama and approximately three miles west of Rock Front Ranch Saturday, April 6.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a Honda Accord was traveling westbound on the highway when for an unknown reason it crossed over the center line and collided with a Nissan Sentra.

The man and woman, both aged 29, of Caliente, a small rural community in the mountains east of Bakersfield, who were in the Honda, were declared dead at the scene.
The driver of the Nissan was identified as Erica Kemp, 20, of San Luis Obispo and her passengers, were Mariana Silverman, 21, and Keilani Waxdeck, 20, both also from San Luis Obispo.
Kemp sustained minor injuries while Silverman and Waxdeck both sustained major injuries. Kemp and Silverman were transported by ground ambulance to Marian Medical Center in Santa Maria.
Waxdeck was airlifted to Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara.
An investigation into the crash is underway.
