Ballico, California (February 21, 2019) – Two people were hospitalized Wednesday evening after a head-on collision in Ballico, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred shortly after 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 20 on Santa Fe Drive, just east of Palm Avenue.

The CHP said a 2000 GMC truck driven by Samuel Torres, 21, of Turlock, was traveling eastbound on Santa Fe Drive when for an undetermined reason it veered into the westbound lane and collided head-on with a westbound 2011 Ford Escape driven by Vanessa Cosain, 30, of Ballico.

The force of the impact caused the Ford to roll over into a ditch off the road while the GMC became disabled in the westbound lane.

Torres was transported by ambulance to a local hospital with a major injury to his foot.

Cosain sustained moderate lacerations to face and arms and was also taken by ambulance to the hospital. Her juvenile passengers, a 2-year-old and a 6-month-old, were properly restrained in child car seats and were not injured in the crash.

Neither alcohol nor drugs were suspected factors in the crash.

The accident remains under investigation.
