San Luis Obispo, California (February 22, 2019) – Two people were hospitalized after a two-vehicle accident on Wednesday afternoon in San Luis Obispo, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The collision took place around 3:00 p.m. February 20, on Highway 101 and Cuesta Grade south of TV Tower Road.

CHP said a 2005 GMC Yukon driven by 44-year-old Shannon Schmidt struck the rear of a big rig which was being driven by Eriberto Ramirez Barba, 23. The collision caused the GMC Yukon to wedge under the big rig.

Schmidt suffered severe injuries while her 9-year-old daughter sustained minor injuries. They were both taken to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center.

No other injuries were reported.

The CHP is investigating the accident.
