Sonora, California (February 16, 2019) – A female pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle Friday evening in Sonora, according to authorities.

The tragic accident happened at around 6:26 p.m. Friday, February 15 on Highway 108, just east of Stockton Road.

The California Highway Patrol said a 2016 Chrysler 200 driven by Timothy Hollis, 21, of Sonora, was traveling eastbound on Highway 108 at approximately 50 mph when the pedestrian stepped off the south shoulder of the road and into traffic.

According to the CHP, Hollis applied his brakes, but was unable to avoid hitting the pedestrian. The force of the impact threw the 36-year-old Sonora woman into the air and she landed in the westbound lane, where she was struck by a 2018 Ford F-150 operated by Glenn Gray, 28.

The woman died in the accident. Her name has not been released pending identification and notification of her relatives.

It was undetermined if drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.

An investigation into the crash is underway.
