1 Killed, Uziel Martinez Injured in Atwater Car Accident at Shaffer Road and Palm Avenue
Atwater, California (January 13, 2019) – One person was killed and three other people were injured Thursday morning in a head-on collision at an Atwater intersection, a local news source reported.
The tragic accident happened at an unspecified time Thursday, January 10 at the intersection of Shaffer Road and Palm Avenue.
As per the report, a 2007 GMC Yukon driven by Uziel Martinez, 19, of Merced, was traveling northbound on Shaffer Road when it drifted into the southbound lane while trying to pass a Jeep Grand Cherokee operated by a 43-year-old Atwater man. While in the southbound lane, the GMC Yukon collided head-on with a Toyota Camry.
Authorities said the driver of the Toyota died at the scene. The name of the deceased has not been released pending identification and notification of family.
Martinez and two other occupants in the GMC Yukon were taken by a ground ambulance to a Modesto area hospital in unknown condition.
Further details regarding the crash were not immediately provided, and the crash remains under investigation.
