Carol Walker and Helen Smothers Injured in Head-On Collision on Tuolumne Road near Mono Way

Tuolumne County, California (July 7, 2021) – The California Highway Patrol has disclosed the names of two drivers who were injured in a head-on collision in Sonora on Monday morning.
The accident happened on Tuolumne Road near the Mono Way intersection at about 11 a.m. June 5.
The CHP established that 84-year-old Helen Smothers, of Columbia, was driving a 2010 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck northbound on Tuolumne Road when she turned left for unknown reasons and collided head-on with a southbound Nissan Versailles driven by 75-year-old Carol Walker, of Jamestown.

Walker was trapped in the car and had to be extricated by Tuolumne County Fire Department crews who responded to the incident.
Both drivers were injured in the accident and were transported to Adventist Health Sonora.
The CHP ruled out impairment as a factor in the collision.
