Driver Dies After Crashing Into Back of Tow Truck on Interstate 5 in National City
Man Killed in National City Truck Accident on Interstate 5 near Main Street and Division Street
National City, California (June 18, 2021) – A driver died after hitting the back of a stopped tow truck Friday night in National City, the California Highway Patrol said.
The deadly crash occurred at around 8:10 p.m. on the southbound Interstate 5 Freeway near Main and Division streets.
According to the CHP, a black Honda Accord was traveling southbound on Interstate 5 when he rear-ended the tow truck that was stopped on the right shoulder.
Following the wreck, the car became wedged beneath the tow truck.
Deadly Crash on Interstate 5 in National City
The driver and sole occupant of the car was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been disclosed pending notification of family.
The operator of the tow truck did not suffer any injuries.
The crash prompted the authorities to close the two right lanes of the freeway.
The accident remains under investigation.
