Derrick Smith ID’d as Security Guard Killed in Long Beach Pedestrian Crash on San Gabriel Avenue
Long Beach, California (June 12, 2021) – The security guard who was killed in a Saturday afternoon hit-and-run accident that occurred at Century Villages in Long Beach has been identified as Derrick Smith, 54, according to the authorities.
The deadly accident occurred at around 3:00 p.m. June 11, in the 2000 block of San Gabriel Avenue.
According to the police, a gray SUV traveling southbound on the roadway slammed into the security station at the complex and struck Smith, who was on guard at the station.

The Long Beach Fire Department medics responded to the accident and attended to Smith, but he sadly succumbed to his injuries.
The involved motorist reportedly fled from the scene and is being sought by the police.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
