Fremont, CA: Driver Hit, Killed by Vehicle on Interstate 880

Fremont, California (June 11, 2021) – A driver was hit and killed by a vehicle shortly after they were involved in a crash in Fremont late Thursday night, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The deadly accident happened at around 11:00 p.m. Thursday, June 10, on Interstate 880.

CHP said a Toyota Camry was heading southbound on Interstate 880 when, for an unknown reason, it crashed into a metal and plastic attenuator that split the freeway’s No. 3 and No. 4 lanes due to a long-term construction project.

Following the crash, the Toyota became disabled and stopped facing the northbound direction in the No. 3 lane.

The driver then exited the vehicle and stood in the lane second farthest from the left.  Moments later, a Ford Fusion struck the driver.

The driver, whose name has not been disclosed pending notification of next of kin, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Ford stopped at the scene and was cooperative, CHP said. Alcohol or drugs were not considered a factor on the driver’s part.

The crash prompted the authorities to close all lanes of the freeway.

The accident remains under investigation.
