San Diego Woman Killed, 3 Injured in Fiery 2-Car Crash on Interstate 8 in Alpine
63-Year-Old San Diego Woman Killed, 3 Hospitalized after Alpine Crash on Interstate 8 near Tavern Road
Alpine, California (June 4, 2021) – Authorities are investigating a Thursday evening traffic accident that killed a 63-year-old San Diego woman and left three other parties seriously injured in Alpine.
The deadly crash happened at around 6:00 p.m., on June 3, on westbound Interstate 8 near Tavern Road.
According to the CHP, a westbound 2000 Toyota Solara sedan, driven by an 18-year-old Los Angeles man, collided with a westbound 2006 GMC Sierra pickup, driven by a 65-year-old Chula Vista man, for undetermined reasons.
As a result of the crash impact, both vehicles reportedly veer toward the center divider, continue down a descending embankment and overturn.
Following the collision, at least one vehicle caught fire which spread to nearby brush, the CHP said.
Interstate 8 Crash in Alpine Kills 1
The 63-year-old San Diego woman, who was the pickup’s rear seat passenger, and was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the truck and pronounced dead at the scene.
The male driver of the Solara, the male driver of the Sierra, and his 58-year-old Chula Vista woman, front-seat passenger, were transported to Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego with major injuries.
Intoxication was not suspected of having played a role in the accident.
No further details about the crash were immediately provided.
The accident remains under investigation.
