Turlock, California (June 2, 2021) – Authorities have identified the wrong-way driver who died Tuesday night in a fiery head-on crash in Turlock as Marvin Hernandez, 44, of Daly City.

The accident occurred on Highway 99 near Fulkerth Road late Tuesday night.

According to the California Highway Patrol, officers found a man lying on the steering wheel of a vehicle facing the wrong way on Highway 99 near Full Cars Road.

When the officers tried to get his attention by knocking on the window of his car, the driver suddenly accelerated, overtook them and collided head-on with an oncoming truck, before striking the center divider.

Driver Killed in Turlock Wrong-Way Crash on Highway 99 Identified

The wrong-way driver, now identified as Hernandez, was killed in the accident.

Two occupants of the truck were hospitalized with major injuries.

Authorities believed intoxication played a role on Hernandez’s part.

An investigation into the incident is being conducted by the CHP.
