San Diego, California (May 24, 2021) – A pedestrian died after being hit by a motorcycle in the Middletown area of San Diego on Monday morning.

The accident occurred on Pacific Highway near West Laurel Street, just east of San Diego International Airport, at about 6:45 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

A motorcyclist is reported to have struck a pedestrian under unclear circumstances near the intersection.

The pedestrian was transported to UC San Diego Medical Center for treatment of major injuries including possible head trauma.

It is unclear if the rider was injured in the accident. He remained at the scene and cooperated with the authorities

Both directions of Pacific Highway near Laurel Street were closed as the authorities examined the scene of the accident.

An investigation into the accident is underway.
