San Francisco, California (May 22, 2021) – Virgil Woods, 57, was arrested following a deadly hit-and-run crash that took place in the area of Hayes and Polk streets in Civic Center Tuesday evening, according to the authorities.

The crash took place at about 7:00 p.m. May 18.

Authorities said a dark blue Chevrolet Avalanche truck heading south on Polk Street failed to stop for the posted stop sign and crashed into a white Audi sedan traveling west on Hayes Street.

The truck then hit two pedestrians.

One of the pedestrians, Lovisa Svallingson, 29, died at the scene of the crash.

The other pedestrian, a 28-year-old man, was taken to Zuckerberg-San Francisco General Hospital with critical injuries.

Two of the four occupants of the Audi were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Virgil Woods Arrested after Fatal San Francisco Pedestrian Hit-And-Run Accident 

The driver of the Chevy reportedly fled the scene after the accident.

At about 1 p.m. Friday, authorities said Woods was arrested at 850 Bryant Street in connection with the accident. 

He was booked into the San Francisco County Jail on charges including hit-and-run, vehicular manslaughter, failure to stop at a red traffic signal, reckless driving, filing a false police report, and destruction of evidence. 

The incident is under investigation.
