Cupertino, California (May 16, 2021) – A woman was killed in a crash involving a suspected DUI driver in Cupertino on Saturday night, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Just after 11 p.m. May 15, CHP said a Nissan Sentra and a Nissan Altima collided on northbound Interstate Highway 280 south of Wolfe Road.

The impact sent both vehicles off the side of the road and the Altima slammed into a tree.

Woman Killed in Cupertino Car Accident on Interstate Highway 280 

A woman who was a passenger in the Altima died at the scene of the collision. The man who was driving the vehicle was taken to a hospital with major injuries.

The other driver reportedly fled from the scene of the collision but was located shortly after. The driver was arrested and booked into the Santa Clara County Jail on suspicion of DUI.

Authorities said the driver had two previous DUI convictions.

The CHP is investigating the incident.
