Red Bluff, California (May 11, 2021) – One person was killed when a car collided with a semi-truck in Red Bluff early Saturday morning, according to a California Highway Patrol report.

The deadly crash happened at about 12:40 a.m. Saturday, May 8, on State Route 99E, just north of Cone Grove.

A 24-year-old Red Bluff man was driving a 2008 Ford northbound on State Route 99E when he attempted to pass a car that was in front of him.

The Ford reportedly drifted into the opposite lane and collided with a Freightliner truck that was heading southbound on SR 99E.

As a result of the collision, the truck came to a stop on its wheels on the east shoulder while the Ford flipped onto its passenger side on the east shoulder.

The driver of the Ford, who was wearing his seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been disclosed pending notification of family.

Authorities believed alcohol played a role in the accident.

The California Highway Patrol-Red Bluff Area Office is investigating the cause of the accident.
