San Jacinto Mountains, California (May 11, 2021) – The Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner’s Office has identified the man who died Sunday afternoon following a head-on collision in the San Jacinto Mountains as Charles Shacklock, 31, of Lowellville, Ohio.
The deadly crash was reported at about 2:30 p.m. Sunday, May 9, in the 19401 block of Highway 243 near Banning.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a silver SUV collided head-on with a black SUV for unknown reasons on the highway.
The impact of the collision caused one of the SUVs to overturn.

One of the involved parties, now identified as Shacklock, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
A helicopter airlifted another person with critical injuries while two other patients were transported by ground ambulances with moderate injuries. Their names and current condition remained unknown.
Both directions of Highway 243 were closed as authorities examined and cleared the scene.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
