Summerland, California (May 4, 2021) – A woman was killed in a Friday evening car crash in Summerland, the California Highway Patrol said.

The deadly single-vehicle accident occurred at about 6:35 p.m. Friday, April 30, in the northbound lanes of Highway 101, just north of North Padaro Padaro Lane.

According to the CHP, a 2016 Nissan Altima, driven by a 58-year-old Goleta woman, was traveling in the No. 1 lane of northbound Highway 101 when, for undetermined reasons, the Nissan swerved to the right and went across all northbound traffic lanes.

The Nissan then drifted off the paved section of the road and continued to the right across the dirt shoulder before it struck a tree.

Deadly Car Accident on Highway 101 in Summerland

The driver and sole occupant of the Nissan suffered severe injuries and died at the scene. Her name has not been disclosed pending notification of next of kin.

Further details about the accident were not immediately available.

The crash remains under investigation.
