Nitya Raju Killed in Rear-End Collision on Highway 99 in Sacramento County
Nitya Raju ID’d as 1 of 3 Killed in Sacramento County Crash on Highway 99 near Elverta Road
Sacramento County, California (April 30, 2021) – The Sacramento County Coroner’s Bureau has identified one of the three people who were killed Wednesday afternoon in a traffic accident in Sacramento County as Nitya Raju, 67, of Antelope.
The deadly crash happened at about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 28, on Highway 99, just south of Elverta Road.
The CHP said a silver Toyota Corolla, driven by Raju, was traveling northbound on Highway 99 when it was struck from behind by a Mercury Mountaineer driven by a 62-year-old Butte Valley woman.
After the impact, the Corolla came to a stop in the No. 2 lane of northbound Highway 99 and was again rear-ended by a 30-foot Penske box truck.
As a result of the crash, three occupants of the Corolla were pinned inside the vehicle.

Raju and his two passengers, a 68-year-old Sacramento man and a 62-year-old Fiji woman, were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
The collision prompted the closure of lanes of the highway for several hours as the investigation and cleanup took place.
Alcohol, drugs, or speed were not considered a factor in the accident.
The crash remains under investigation.
