Monterey Park, California (April 28, 2021) – The California Highway Patrol has identified the woman who was killed in a hit-and-run crash early Wednesday morning in Monterey Park as Crystal Ruby Soto, 18, of Long Beach.

Just after 2:00 a.m. Soto was driving westbound on 60 Freeway, just east of Markland Drive, when,  for an unknown reason, she lost control of her Honda Accord, which drifted to the left and crashed into a center median.

The CHP said the Honda became disabled in the number one lane. Soto and her three teenage passengers exited the vehicle and ran across the lanes toward the freeway shoulder.

Soto was then hit by a vehicle.

Deadly Hit-and-Run Crash on 60 Freeway in Monterey Park

Soto died in the crash despite life-saving efforts performed by medical personnel. The three juveniles fled on foot before police arrived.

The driver of the vehicle that hit Soto fled the scene. There were no descriptions of the suspect’s vehicle or driver.

Authorities are still searching for the hit-and-run suspect.

Four lanes of the freeway were closed for nearly three hours following the crash.

The accident remains under investigation.
