Commerce, California (April 19, 2021) – Six people were injured, one critically, in a multi-vehicle collision Monday morning in Commerce, according to a report by the California Highway Patrol.

The deadly crash, which was reported at around 2:40 a.m., happened in the northbound lane of 5 Freeway, just south of Slauson Avenue, the CHP report states.

Witnesses told the CHP officials that a sedan was stalled in the fast lane and was struck by at least two vehicles.

Medical personnel responded to the scene and took two patients to hospitals, one with moderate injuries and one was in critical condition. Four other victims had minor injuries.

The names and current conditions of the injured parties were not disclosed.

At 2:55 a.m., a SigAlert was issued blocking the No. 1, 2,3, and 4 lanes except the slow lane, according to the CHP. As of 4:37 a.m., lanes 3 and 4 were reopened.

Further details about the accident were not immediately available.

The accident remains under investigation.
