Arvin, California (April 18, 2021) – A 19-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a Thursday afternoon traffic accident that left two other people injured in Arvin, the California Highway Patrol said.

The CHP said the incident was reported at around 1:44 p.m. Thursday, April 15, on Comanche Drive, just north of Sunset Boulevard.

According to the CHP, a 2004 Chevy Suburban hauling a utility trailer was stopped on the right shoulder of southbound Comanche Drive when it tried to make a U-turn.

The Suburban, driven by Manuel Pantoja, 49, of Arvin, reportedly turned directly in front of a 2010 Kawasaki EX250J that was heading southbound on Comanche Drive at an unspecified speed.

Unfortunately, the motorcycle crashed into the driver’s side of the Suburban. The impact caused the rider to be ejected from the bike onto the roadway.

The 19-year-old motorcyclist was transported to Kern Medical and was later declared dead.

Pantoja and his passenger, Jessie Mendez, were also taken to Kern Medical with minor to moderate injuries.

Drugs or alcohol were not suspected of having played a role in the accident.

The crash remains under investigation.
