Escondido, California (April 8, 2021) – The California Highway Patrol motorcycle officer who was injured Tuesday afternoon in a traffic accident in Escondido has been identified as Officer Joseph Heightman.

The accident happened just before 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 6, on Via Rancho Parkway near Lomas Serena Drive, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The CHP said Heightman was riding his motorcycle eastbound on West Via Rancho Parkway when a Nissan Rogue turned left in front of him.

The impact of the collision ejected Heightman from the motorcycle.

Heightman, a 13-year agency veteran and Medal of Valor recipient, was transported to a local hospital with major injuries.
