Christan Nelson ID’d as Man Killed in Copperopolis Crash on O’Byrnes Ferry Road near Cosmic Court
Copperopolis, California (April 5, 2021) – Authorities have identified the man who was killed early Saturday morning in a single-vehicle traffic accident in Copperopolis as Christan Nelson, 25, of Copperopolis.
According to a report from the California Highway Patrol, the deadly crash occurred at around 2:30 a.m. Saturday, April 3, on O’Byrnes Ferry Road, just south Cosmic Court.
As per the CHP report, a gray 2006 Ford F-250, driven by Nelson, was traveling southbound on O’Byrnes Ferry Road when, for unknown reasons, the truck swerved to the right and veered off the pavement onto the shoulder.
The truck reportedly made an unsafe turning movement and crossed over the northbound lane of O’Byrnes Ferry Road. It then drifted off the roadway and hit a utility pole.
The truck then crashed through a fence and rolled over multiple times. As the truck was overturning, Nelson was thrown from the vehicle.

Nelson, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene.
It is undetermined if the alcohol or drugs played a role in the collision.
The accident remains under investigation.
