One Person Dies, Another Hospitalized after Magalia Crash on New Skyway near Pentz Road
Magalia, California (April 5, 2021) – A single-vehicle traffic accident has claimed the life of one person Monday afternoon in Magalia and left another injured, according to a report from the California Highway Patrol.
The deadly crash occurred at about 4:00 p.m. on New Skyway, just past Pentz Road, the CHP report states.
Authorities said a vehicle was traveling in an unspecified direction on New Skyway when, for unknown reasons, the car drifted off the roadway and fell 60 feet.
The vehicle then struck a tree and spun around.
Witnesses told the investigators that the vehicle was speeding and driving recklessly prior to the collision.
Deadly New Skyway Car Accident
One occupant of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene, while another was transported to a local hospital with moderate to major injuries. Both victims were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the accident, authorities said.
The name of the deceased person has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
Skyway was shut down for about an hour while the authorities conduct an investigation. Drivers were asked to use Old Skyway as an alternate route.
It is still unclear whether intoxication played a role in the accident.
The crash remains under investigation.
