Chula Vista Woman Dies, Man Killed in San Diego Crash on Interstate 8 Off-Ramp to Interstate 5

San Diego, California (March 27, 2021) – A single-vehicle rollover crash has claimed the life of a 23-year-old Chula Vista woman late Thursday night in the Midway District and left a man injured, authorities said.
The deadly accident happened just before midnight on Thursday, March 25, on Interstate 8 off-ramp to Interstate 5.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the Chula Vista woman was driving a Toyota Camry when, for an unknown reason, the Camry drifted off the transition ramp from east Interstate 8 to south Interstate 5.
The Camry then traveled down an embankment and slammed into a concrete support pillar.
Fatal Car Crash on Interstate 8 in San Diego
The driver of the Camry was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name has not been disclosed pending notification of next of kin.
A passenger in the Camry, a 24-year-old man, was transported to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.
The ramps from both east and west I-8 to south I-5 were closed while the investigation and cleanup took place.
It is undetermined if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the accident.
The crash remains under investigation.
