Man Injured in Berkeley Pedestrian Accident on West Frontage Road near University Avenue
Berkeley, California (March 23, 2021) – A man was injured after a vehicle drove off the roadway and crashed into a homeless encampment in Berkeley Sunday night, according to a local news source.
The accident occurred at around 8:49 p.m. Sunday, March 21, on West Frontage Road near University Avenue and south of the Sea Breeze Market.
Authorities said a vehicle was traveling in an unspecified direction on Frontage Road when, for unknown reasons, it drifted off the roadway.
The vehicle then plowed through a homeless encampment and struck a man.
First responders arrived at the scene and found the man and a shopping cart trapped underneath the vehicle.
The man was then transported to a local hospital after being extricated from the wreckage. His name and condition were not immediately disclosed.
Authorities later determined that the driver of the involved vehicle was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the accident. The driver was ultimately arrested on suspicion of DUI.
