Linda Vista, California (March 20, 2021) – A traffic accident suspected to have been caused by street racing has claimed the life of a 17-year-old boy Friday night in Linda Vista and left eight other people injured, according to authorities.

The tragic crash happened at about 11 p.m. March 19, on Genesee Avenue and Osler Street, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The police said a 2010 Toyota Camry and a 2008 Nissan Altima were traveling westbound on Genesee Avenue at a high rate of speed when the Toyota drifted to the left and sideswiped the Nissan.

The Toyota then collided head-on with a 2020 Mazda that was heading eastbound.

The two vehicles were extensively damaged, and the firefighters had to extricate the occupants from the wreckage.

The 17-year-old driver of the Toyota was taken to a hospital where he was declared dead. His name was withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Two passengers in the Toyota were hospitalized with major injuries.

The Mazda driver, a 21-year-old woman, and her two passengers were transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The Nissan driver and two passengers only complained of pain.

No additional information about the accident was provided.

An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
