Metro Fire Engineer Kyle Rutherford Dies in Roseville Crash on Interstate 80 near Atlantic Street
Roseville, California (March 20, 2021) – A Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District engineer died Saturday morning following a car crash in Roseville, authorities said.
The deadly single-car accident occurred shortly after 7:00 a.m. on Interstate 80 near Atlantic Street, the California Highway Patrol reported.
According to the CHP, Kyle Rutherford, 38, was driving a Toyota Corolla westbound on Interstate 80 when, for unknown reasons, he drifted into the center median and crashed into a concrete barrier.
Deadly Car Accident on I-80 in Roseville
Emergency crews responded to the scene and extricated Rutherford from the wrecked vehicle. He was then transported to Sutter Roseville Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Authorities said Rutherford was the sole occupant of the vehicle and was headed to work at a station in North Highlands when the accident happened.
Authorities said neither alcohol nor drugs played a role in the collision.
