San Diego, California (March 17, 2021) – 40-year-old Rodney Diffendal has been identified as one of the people who were killed after a vehicle crashed into a homeless encampment under a tunnel near San Diego City College.

The fatal crash happened at about 9 a.m. March 15, under a tunnel known to shelter houseless individuals, on the 1400 block of B Street.

71-year-old Craig Voss lost control of his car, veered onto a sidewalk and plowed into the homeless shelter.

Diffendal and two other people were killed in the accident.

Six other people were injured in the crash and were transported to an area hospital for treatment.

The authorities said dozens of people shelter under the tunnel, especially during rainy or gloomy weather.

Voss remained at the scene of the accident and was arrested. He faces multiple charges including three counts of vehicular manslaughter, five counts of causing great bodily injury and one count of felony DUI.

No additional information about the accident was provided.
