Saegmany Vongphachanh ID’d as Wheelchair-Bound Woman Killed in Anaheim Pedestrian Accident at Neighbors Avenue and Mohican Way
Anaheim, California (March 17, 2021) – Authorities have identified the woman in a wheelchair who died early this year following a hit-and-run accident in Anaheim as Saegmany Vongphachanh, 53.
The deadly crash happened shortly before noon on January 7 in an alley at Neighbors Avenue and Mohican Way.
Authorities said Vongphachanh was being helped into her car by her husband when, for undetermined reasons, another car backed up and struck her.
Vongphachanh was pinned between the two cars, according to the police.
Vongphachanh was transported to a local hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
The driver, Jose Jesus Tapia, 29, fled the scene but was arrested the following day.
Tapia has been charged with gross vehicular manslaughter and fleeing the scene of a crime, hit-and-run resulting in death or injury. On Tuesday, March 16, Tapia pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The accident remains under investigation.
