Napa County, California (March 17, 2021) – The California Highway Patrol has identified the Santa Rosa man who died following a traffic collision in Napa County Monday morning as 64-year-old Alvin Ray Minniefield.

The deadly crash took place on State Highway 29, southeast of Calistoga, at about 10:10 a.m.

A 2015 Subaru driven by 30-year-old Philip Popick southbound on Highway 29 just south of Larkmead Lane crossed into the opposite traffic lanes and crashed head-on with a 1997 Infiniti operated by Mininefield.

Sadly, Mininefield was pronounced dead at the scene.

62-year-old Deborah Abata of Santa Rosa, who was riding in the Infiniti as a passenger, was hospitalized at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital with severe injuries.

Police arrested Popick on suspicion of felony DUI causing injuries.

The wreck resulted in the closure of State Highway 29 between Bale Lane to Larkmead Road, and vehicles were advised to use the Silverado Trail.

An investigation into the accident is underway.
