French Camp, California (March 14, 2021) – Phylis Clifton, 7, of Tracy, was among five people who were killed Thursday night in a traffic accident in French Camp.

The deadly accident occurred at about 11:00 p.m. Thursday, March 11, on Interstate 5.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a 33-year-old Stockton man was driving a 1997 Toyota northbound on Interstate 5 when he allowed the Toyota to drift off the roadway and struck a highway sign.

The vehicle then crashed through a fence and slammed into a tree.

Three people were pronounced dead at the scene, while two others were transported to a local hospital, where they later succumbed to their injuries.

Alcohol or drugs were considered a factor in the accident.

The crash remains under investigation.
