CHP Releases Names of Two Fortuna Drivers Injured in Highway 101 Crash

Myers Flat, California (March 1, 2021) – The California Highway Patrol has released the names of the two drivers who were injured Monday morning after their vehicles collided head-on on Highway 101 in Myers Flat.

Angel Rocholazcano, 34, and Sawyer McCanless, 21, both from Fortuna, were injured in the 7:10 a.m. head-on crash on Highway 101north of Salmon Creek.

According to the CHP, Rocholazcano was driving a 2002 GMC Yukon southbound on Highway 101, approaching a northbound 2016 Hyundai Elantra driven McCanless. For some reason, the Hyundai crossed into the opposite lane and collided head-on with the GMC Yukon.

Authorities say Rocholazcano and McCanless sustained major injuries and were transported by City Ambulance to St. Joseph Hospital for treatment.

The cause of the head-on collision remains under investigation. However, the police do not believe drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.

Officers diverted traffic from Highway 101 onto SR-254 as crews worked to clear the scene.
